Conspiracy Theories.

That’s what this website is about. The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word conspiracy as “an agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.” [1] Conspiracies can be very dangerous things or they can be a means to petty crimes or even simple harassment. Sometimes a conspiracy can simply be measures taken surreptitiously in order to extract an outcome that could be viewed undesirable from some point of view.

For example: a conspiracy could consist of a board of stockholders to a company deciding to commit fraud or to engage in an overly-hostile takeover. A conspiracy could also consist of a boxer and some fight fixer agreeing to have the boxer lose a bout on purpose for a huge pay-out bet. Basically, a conspiracy can range from small-scale to large scale, from a large group of people to just a few.

There are many ideas floating about concerning conspiracies. Just as I explained in the last paragraph, these ideas range in subjects from relatively small to incredibly large-scale. Many of these conspiracy theories

This website critically examines some conspiracy theories that exist out there, in the hopes that some of the questionable or blatantly misleading information out there can be sifted through by others.

The Conspiracy Theory Wiki

This wiki is a project meant to examine various theories that exist on the internet dealing with secret societies, clandestine agendas, or other types of conspiracies.

Open Intentions

The main goal of this wiki project is to examine and address some conspiracy theories out there. It will very likely not address every conspiracy theory that exists out there, and if you find that there is one that has not been included it may show up here in the future. The following are some points to consider regarding the purposes of this site:

This Site is Not Meant to Attack

It is not the goal of this site to attack anyone, whether a conspiracy theorist or otherwise. That doesn't mean this site may not actively disagree with some conspiracy theory or provide statements that oppose a given conspiracy theorist view, but this site will attempt to avoid personal attacks. Arguments and claims made by people, however, are another story. It is perfectly logical and reasonable to be able to attack an argument or a claim and not attack the person who made them.

Independent Verification

Whenever possible, the pages on this site will attempt to provide as many citations and links to unaffiliated sources as possible, in order to allow for independent verification on the part of the visitor to this site. Independent verification is a large part of examining something logically and with intellectual honesty. This website does not ask you, the reader, to take what is written here solely at face value, and as much as it would be recommended at any website making a claim or an argument, it is recommended and encouraged to check any and all citations or references made here on any pages you may read.

Not Stupid

Whether you (the reader) believe a conspiracy theory or not, it is not the intention of this site to consider you stupid. There are ideas and claims that this site may state are incorrect, misleading, or otherwise wrong. However, this does not mean that whomever holds these ideas or makes these claims is stupid. It is the firm belief of the creator of this site that people are able to disagree and consider the arguments of others wrong or incorrect while still respecting the humanity of others. Name-calling is discouraged for pages on this website.

In All Intellectual Honesty

This website is by no means meant to be taken as the definitive, final word on many of the subjects examined here. This is the single largest reason why independent verification is so important and why sourcing and referencing aims to get as close to the core subject material as possible. When available, primary sources or original audio, video, or text will be utilized when presenting information. It cannot be stressed enough that, in the spirit of intellectual honesty, the reader is urged to read the references made in each of the pages on this site.

Table of Contents

A table of contents will be forthcoming, once the pages currently being worked on are cleaned up and revised to acceptable levels. The listings of different conspiracy theories will likely be broken up by type, including: social or religious conspiracies; government and government agency conspiracies; and some as-yet-undetermined heading for various conspiracies involving metaphysical or extra-terrestrial types of theories. There will obviously be overlap between the different types, and all effort will be made to keep that in mind.

"It seems to me what is called for is an exquisite balance between two conflicting needs: the most skeptical scrutiny of all hypotheses that are served up to us and at the same time a great openness to new ideas. If you are only skeptical, then no new ideas make it through to you. You never learn anything new. You become a crotchety old person convinced that nonsense is ruling the world. (There is, of course, much data to support you.) But every now and then, maybe once in a hundred cases, a new idea turns out to be on the mark, valid and wonderful. If you are too much in the habit of being skeptical about everything, you are going to miss or resent it, and either way you will be standing in the way of understanding and progress.

"On the other hand, if you are open to the point of gullibility and have not an ounce of skeptical sense in you, then you cannot distinguish useful ideas from the worthless ones. If all ideas have equal validity then you are lost, because then, it seems to me, no ideas have any validity at all." - Carl Sagan, "The Burden of Skepticism," 1987 [2]
